Biography
Darla Dixon graduated with a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from Lebanon Valley College. She has over 25 years of experience as a private music instructor. As a versatile musician, she doubles on piccolo, all flutes, all saxophones and clarinet for pit orchestras. She has sung in a wide variety of choirs; she was a jazz band director while in college; and she has been a church choir and church music director. Darla was a board member of the New York Flute Club as well as its Publicity Director, and she was also the Publicity Director for the National Flute Association for many years.
In addition, Ms. Dixon has worked for non-profit arts organizations in the field of public relations for Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Her major teachers include Katherine Borst Jones and Linda Chesis. Additional teachers include James Galway, and Julius Baker.
Darla is on the faculty of Jazz Aspen Snowmass. She also works as a freelance flutist, and maintains a private music studio in Aspen, CO. She is an active member of the National Flute Association as well as the Colorado Flute Association.
